Dessert with Bacon

Dessert with Bacon

Bacon Toffee

After a quick google search on popular blog post topics one of the top suggestions was anything about Bacon. Which even typing that I still giggle. I mean I do love bacon but why its one of the most read blog topics I have no clue. So I went on a mission. I started googling bacon recipes. Since it’s me though, I deviated from a more traditional bacon recipe and instead added the keyword “Dessert”.

After digging for something easy with limited ingredients (AKA something I already had on hand). I came across Bacon Toffee aka…Crack Toffee. Have you guys ever had the crack cookies you get at the grocery store? You know the sugar cookies with the frosting? If you know you know. I nicknamed those crack cookies years ago as I can eat the whole box in one sitting (BAD. I do not suggest lol) . They are sugary goodness that just disappear quickly. This bacon toffee ranks up with those cookies.

I found the recipe on Bakerita. I will share it here too but please feel free to visit Bakerita’s blog as well. I did not deviate from original recipe (at least I don’t think I did…I was definitely enjoying a glass of wine while I made them-lol). They were fast to make and the entire family enjoyed them (yes you read that right…even Lennox ate them. I couldn’t believe it.

Bacon Toffee Recipe

1 Sleeve of Saltine Crackers
1 cup Brown Sugar
1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
1 cup chocolate chips
10 slices of bacon (or so)

  1. Take the saltines and spread them out on a cookie sheet with parchment paper. You can spray with non-stick spray (I didn’t have any…but the parchment paper worked great).

  2. Cook the bacon, pat dry, drain…and cut into small bits. I used pre-packaged bacon from Costco it was PERFECT.

  3. Take half the bacon and sprinkle as evenly as you can over the crackers.

  4. In a medium saucepan (over med heat), melt the brown sugar and butter, stirring constantly (I used a whisk). Once it starts to boil, stop stirring and let boil for 3 minutes.

  5. Immediately pour over the crackers evenly.

  6. Toss in pre-heated oven (400 degrees).

  7. Bake for 5-6 minutes.

  8. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips on top.

  9. Let sit for about 5 minutes to give time for chocolate to soften/melt.

  10. Spread chocolate out with a butter knife or spatula.

  11. Sprinkle the rest of the bacon on top.

  12. Place cookie sheet in fridge for 15 minutes or so. (Enough to harden the chocolate).

  13. Eat. Repeat.

Bacon Toffee Dessert

BACON

noun.
The reason you are not a Vegetarian.

These are delicious as dessert but I will say the best way to enjoy them is in the morning with a cup of coffee. I mean there is bacon so that make them a breakfast food right?

If you make this recipe I would love to hear what you thought? Please share your feedback in the comments. Especially if you made any changes to it!

Thanks for reading…Enjoy your bacon treat!
