Farmhouse Kitchen

Farmhouse Kitchen

It is way past time for me share our farmhouse kitchen remodel. I am so in love with this kitchen. When we bought this house 7ish years ago the kitchen was dark. Best way to describe it. It was not ugly by any means. It was just not my style and DARK. There is not a lot of natural light on that side of the house, that mixed in with all the dark cabinets it felt like a cave. I knew I wanted to help brighten it up as much as I could as well as add that farmhouse charm.

Let’s start with a before photo so we can set the scene…

Harlacher Kitchen Before

You can see it’s still a pretty kitchen. There really was nothing technically wrong with it and no disrespect if you personally love it. But the cabinets are dark, the countertops are dark and even the sink is black.

The first step for us was updating the cabinets. We decided to have them painted and hired a local company, Bluenote Painting . While Dan does most of our painting this was not one he was excited about tackling. We also knew it was going to take a lot longer and I didn’t want to be without a kitchen for too long. Bluenote did a fantastic job! It was quick, efficient and they were awesome to work with. If you are looking for a painter I highly recommend them.

To finish the cabinets and drawers we selected and updated the hardware to a farmhouse pull and a black knob for the cabinets.

Next, we had the countertops replaced. For those we actually went through ikea. It is now a beautiful neutral gray. The final pieces of the puzzle were the subway tile backsplash (installed by Dan and family friend, Justin) and of course the farmhouse sink!

Dan also replaced the wood flooring in our entire house. I forgot to mention the flooring added another dynamic to the overall darkness. But I figured you guys got the point. I wanted it all white, bright and give something for the light to reflect off of. It is no longer a cave and we can now enter our kitchen with no lights on and still see (during the day!).

The lights above the island can be found HERE
The stools were found at City Home

Hope you enjoyed my farmhouse kitchen remodel! If you have any questions I am here!
