My Bliss.

Welcome to my blog. Finding balance between  photography, family and everything in between.

Light Seeking

Light Seeking

Light is everywhere.

And magic can happen EVEN with an iPhone if you know what you are looking for. I don't always have camera with me. Actually that's probably not the right statement. Its more that I don't take my camera with me. Since taking photos is my job I don't always want to drag it along on trips or events. Vacation is not supposed to be work right? I'm actually trying to get better about bringing along the camera and at least making one opportunity for some photos. But one thing I am rarely without is my phone, which I guess is the same for many of you as well. I am often amazed at the photos I can pull off with my iPhone and wanted to share a couple I took this past weekend from my families mini trip to Manzanita. The house we rented was awesome and had beautiful wood and windows (aka Light) everywhere.

Sometimes light can find you.

While we were exploring the new house, I spied my son peering outside a window on the stairs and I loved the way the light was wrapping around him. Sometimes just being in the right place at the right time is all you need. Always be on the lookout for beautiful light. As soon as I saw this moment I quickly grabbed my phone and took his photo.

He is so handsome isn't he?  I loved the light on his face and how the Black and White really set the mood of this shot.  If you are using an iPhone and window light it can have trouble with the exposure. Just make sure you touch the focus on your screen to be on the subjects face, which should be the lightest part in your image. This should help your phone expose properly.

I did grab a shot of all four kids on the staircase as well.  This was a little more tricky on the light and I wouldn't say this shot is perfect. It could use a little extra fill (light) as there is not light in all four kids eyes. But remember....These were not meant to be perfect studio shots. These were meant to be real life and in the moment. Playing with light and seeing what I could make happen. I knew this was pushing the limits. But, why the heck not?

And seriously...Getting four kids to be that adorable all at the same time? That's a feat all in itself. ha!

Light can push your creativity.

I encourage all of you to push your creativity even if you are just using a phone. Seek out light. Be open. Don't be afraid to give it a try and see what happens. Ill make another post soon with photos from the beach trip with my DSLR. But I thought it would be fun to share a little magic that did not require anything but a window and a phone (and cute kids of course!).

More Soon.
